'''What You Don't Know Won't Hurt You!"

Have you ever heard the saying, "What you don't know won't hurt you"? The Mills Brothers even recorded a song by that title back in the 1940s. I heard the phrase a lot growing up. And through years of personal experience and observation, I've come to believe it's one of the most misleading pieces of advice ever passed down.

Consider this: I might be completely unaware that my car has no engine oil — and that the engine will blow exactly one week from today. Today, I feel fine. No pain, no problem. But in a week, when the car catches fire on the highway, there's going to be a lot that hurts. The damage was always coming. I just didn't know it yet.

For successful business owners, the stakes are considerably higher than a car repair bill.

Your business is likely your most significant asset — and the primary vehicle for achieving your financial, values-based, and legacy goals. You may already sense there are things you need to know about how ready you are, and how ready your business is, for you to exit on your own terms. But you've chosen not to look. Because looking will mean more work, more time, and more investment. And right now, what you don't know isn't hurting you.

Until it does.

Owners who delay discovery often reach the finish line only to find their financial goals won't be met, their legacy plans can't be realized, and the exit they envisioned isn't available to them. That's not a setback — it's devastating. And it's avoidable.

Take steps now to expose reality, get the knowledge you need, and act on it. Get help — because you don't know what you don't know.
